Ironbound Stadium

The Ironbound Stadium is an $11 million, two-phase project to rehabilitate and modernize a 50-year-old iconic stadium and to install new athletic fields. The stadium site, which has been closed for 35 years due to environmental hazards, will undergo the environmental remediation as part of the redevelopment. Major components include new fields for football, soccer, and lacrosse, extensive work to the iconic stadium including substantial renovations, sports lighting, and new concessions structures. Once renovated, the state of the art facility will be made available to area high schools, community and intra-state sports leagues and special events and exhibitions.

The improvement costs are substantially being borne by the Hess Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hess, which recently built a plant in the East Ward, the NJ Greenacres Foundation and also from the Newark Department of Engineering’s capital budget.
